Nana Mouskouri on British Television

oikotimes.com reports:
The much loved, and much famed, Nana Mouskouri made an appearance on ITV1's popular morning show 'This Morning' earlier today. She was introduced by host Philip Scofield who said that ''the word legend is often overused these days... but this lady certainly is one''.
Nana, who speaks five languages but has sung in eleven, was complimented on this idea as a way of reaching out to people. ''It was never planned that way'' said argueably the most famous Greek musician of all time. ''I wanted to learn other languages and culture to learn more about singing''.
In total, Nana has recorded over 1350 songs in 11 different languages over her carear that has spanned 50 years. She is currently touring the world on a four-year ''Farewell Tour''. ''Life helped me to be a singer... I became a stage person, wonderful things don't last forever. It's better to say thank you to the audience, because if the audience weren't here to listen to me I wouldn't be here'' she said.
Nana was praised for never giving notice to those who said she should change who she was. Indeed, she revealed that at the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest- where she entered for Luxembourg- she was told by Harry Belafonte to lose her glasses and change her hair!
As a little bit of fun, hosts Fearne and Phil asked Nana to try on some new, more modern, glasses, which she duly did, with Philip then telling er that her original ones looked best. Nana will be back in the UK in October as part of her 'Farewell Tour'.

L'amour à la française

I remember jolie demoiselle
The last summer, nous, la tour Eiffel
I remember comme tu étais belle
So beautiful with your sac Chanel

Sur le pont de la Seine
Let's do it again, again, again, again
You gave me a rendez-vous
What is it, what is it?

Je le cherche à toi dans les rues
Je ne suis pas venir car tu ne l'es plus
Je le regarde partout, where are you?
My heart is bleeding, oh, I miss you

L'amour à la française
Let's do it again, again, again, again
You gave me a rendez-vous

Et je cours, je cours, je cours
I've lost l'amour, l'amour, l'amour
Je suis perdu, here without you
And I'm crazy, seul à Paris
Je tu le manques, sans toi I can't
Et sous la pluie, I feel sorry
Champs-Élysées, alone la nuit
Le Moulin Rouge, I feel guilty

Et le soleil est plus brûlant que les oiseaux
Et dans le ciel, I miss you so
A souvenir, a rendez-vous
Des fleurs, des fleurs, des fleurs for you
Je tu le manques, sans toi I can't
Et sous la pluie, I feel sorry
Je suis perdu, here without you
And I'm crazy, seul à Paris

I remember jolie demoiselle

I remember nous, la Tour Eiffel
So beautiful with your sac Chanel

L'amour à la française
C'est que je t'aime, je t'aime, je t'aime, je t'aime
I give you a rendez-vous

Et je cours, je cours, je cours

East meets West in one-time Soviet St Tropez

Jurmala, Latvia (dpa) - Here's a question for pub quiz addicts: what do Boris Yeltsin, Charlie Mingus, Viagra, Dr Watson and the Gipsy Kings have in common?
The answer is a place you've probably never heard of: Jurmala, once the Soviet Union's equivalent of St Tropez and now the top beach resort in independent Latvia.
................................................................................................................
This July and August, some of the biggest names in Russian showbiz are set to strut their stuff on Jurmala's festival stage.
Their names may not be well known in the English-speaking world, but retro-pop group Doktor Vatson, comedy duo Novie Russkie Babki ("new Russian grannies"), balladist Sergei Trofimov and matinee idol Maxim Galkin are daily fodder on Russian TV.
This year, they are set to perform alongside a string of Western stars. From July 12 to 14, Jurmala offers the exotic cocktail of Doktor Vatson, the Gipsy Kings and German group Genghiz Khan.
From July 25 to 30, meanwhile, the resort is set to rock to the sounds of the "New Wave" contest - a showcase for young performers from around the world, jointly organized by legendary Latvian composer Raimonds Pauls and Russian diva Alla Pugachova.
Last year, the contest's top guests included Enrique Iglesias and Russian girl band Via Gra. This year's stars will be similarly high-profile, though their identity will only be released nearer the time, Kokina said.
In August, meanwhile, both Trofimov and Galkin will take to the Jurmala stage, before it looks West to host jazz greats the Mingus Big Band and Latvia's recent Eurovision entry, Cosmos.
Jurmala has not yet quite earned the cachet in the West that it has in the East: no A-listed Western star has yet performed beside Russia's superstars in the town's summer festivals.
But with Jurmala's profile still growing, it is surely not long before its mix of sun, sand and showbiz make it the ultimate place to watch the stars of East and West form new constellations.

Dana International conquers Israeli radio again

from esctoday.com

Dana International's new single, Love boy, the second one from her new album has stormed the radio stations in Israel. The song reached the first place on the combined airplay chart of all radio stations in the country and has put Dana back in business, for the first time in a long while.

For quite a long while, the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest winner, Dana International, has kept a low profile in the Israeli music scene. She has been recently signed in one of Israel's leading record labels, Hed Arzi, and a new album is scheduled to be released, probably this August. In the build up to the album's release, Dana has been everywhere in the Israeli media lately: television interviews in all the national channels, magazines and internet websites.

The first single from this upcoming album, Hakol ze letova (Everything is for the better), was released a couple of months ago and gained popularity but nothing compares to the next single, Love boy, which instantly became a massive hit. This summer hit immediately topped the charts in various radio stations and has conquered the first place in this week's combined airplay chart of all radio stations in Israel. The song's chorus containts two verses from an old song of Avi Toledano's (Israel 1982).

Ofer Menachem, Dana's PR manager at Hed Arzi, told Esctoday.com: "We are proud and happy with Dana's success with us. Dana's fans can expect the album to be out real soon and it will be available for purchasing, even from abroad, in the near future". The new album will also include a special remix of one of the other tracks, You get down on me, by the leading DJ, Junior Vasquez.

The song Love Boy, which turned into a massive summer hit and gained the support of the radio stations and music critics, has certainly put Dana International in the spotlight in Israel, after a long while.

You are able to listen to the song on Dana International's official website, by clicking here.

A remix for the song is also available for listening- click here (the tracks will start playing automatically by opening the links).
