EUROBEAT - Almost Eurovision

The Eurovisionaries

ONCE UPON A TIME...a fellow had an idea to stage a show based upon the Eurovision Song Contest. To do this he invited twenty or so of his very closest friends to come along and make this show a party for all. For two spectacular events these people offered their enthusiasm, talent and support to create the original Eurobeat productions and they will go down in the annals of history as...

Eurobeat – the Eurovision Musical is an original adaptation of the infamous Eurovision Song Contest. Set in Sarajevo and hosted by the glamorous Bronya and her tall, blond, pretty and dumb cohost Sergei they present for the enjoyment of the audience 12 acts representing an eclectic mix of countries.

Whether it be the Swedish pop stylings of Avla, the Russian boy band KGBoiz, from the Hungarian triplets the Molnar Sisters with their powerful folk music (sung in Hungarian of course) to the heartfelt longing of the song for Ireland presented by Ronan Corr, audiences are treated to a smorgasbord of entertainment presented by a cast of 30 performers who sing, dance and whip audiences up into a frenzied state.

In true Eurovision style at the end of the performances the audiences have the opportunity to vote (having been endowed with a nationality on the night and handed a voting form upon entry). The audiences votes are tabulated and then counted down as each country’s votes are given out ’live via satellite’. The event is reinvented every night as the audience dictates who the winners are. Once they are identified by the end of the voting the winners return to the stage for a triumphant reprise of their winning entry.

San Marino broadcaster interested in Eurovision

from esctoday.com
The microstate of San Marino is one of the last European countries never to have participated in the Eurovision Song Contest.
However, it seems that this could change in the next few years - Sammarinese broadcaster SMRTV has confirmed to esctoday.com that they are watching the Eurovision project with a possible participation in mind.
SMRTV considered joining in 2007, but its stockholders, many of whom are related to Italian broadcaster RAI, decided not to support the idea. Whether they will have changed their minds in a year seems unlikely, but SMRTV is aiming to participate at some point over the next few years, according to a spokesperson for the broadcaster.
San Marino is a tiny country surrounded entirely by Italy, and is often reported as being the world's oldest republic. Success for microstates has happened in the past - Monaco won in 1971, for example, and Malta has had 4 top 3 placings to date, the most recent coming in 2005 when Chiara placed 2nd.
As Italy is not participating in the contest, and seems unlikely to return in the near future, San Marino could act as a representative for the Italian language and music tradition in the contest in their absence. As a debuting country, San Marino would have to start in the semi final, should they enter.

Slovakia: Eurovision a question of money

from esctoday com

It's been 10 years since we last had a Slovak competitor at the Eurovision Song Contest, when Katarína Hasprová sang "Modlitba" for the country in Birmingham. However, it seems that at long last, we will get a follow up to that song in Belgrade!

Elena Mallickova, head of international relations at Slovak broadcaster STV, has confirmed that STV is currently very interested in making a return to the contest in 2008.

She stresses, however, that STV is one of the smallest members of the EBU in terms of revenue, and therefore finding the budget for it could be a struggle. Despite this, she remains hopeful that we could see a Slovak entry in 2008!

Portugal chose the choreographer and composer for Dance Contest

The choreographer of the Portuguese entry will be Marco de Camillis, an Italian choreographer responsible for the program “Strictly Come Dancing” (in Portugal “Dança Comigo”).
On the other hand, Fernando Martins will compose the two songs – one Latin style and a Portuguese-Ethnic. Fernando Martins, as author and producer, reached the second place of 2007 Portuguese national selection to Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Ai de quem nunca cantou” sang by Teresa Radamanto.
Sónia Araújo's couple was not revealed yet, but, according to José Poiares, head of delegation, “he is a professional dancer as sure”.
