Sirusho will be in Lemessos on the 22nd of November

Sirusho, who successfully represented Armenia at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest with "Qele, Qele", will travel to Cyprus in November to support the Armenian Junior Eurovision Song Contest participants.

Armenia will be represented by Monika Manucharova, who will sing Im Ergi Hnchyune in Lemesos on the 22nd of November. Armenian superstar Sirusho will also pack for Cyprus, to support, guide and advise the young singer representing her country in the lead up to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

The role of Armenia's former Eurovision Song Contest hope is limited to supporting the young delegates in Cyprus, and Sirusho is not scheduled to make an appearance on the show itself.

Sirusho performed "Qele Qele" in the 1st Semi Final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 and she has qualified for the final.





Armenia was drawn 5th in the Final.

First semi final results

The representatives of nineteen countries have presented their songs tonight in the First Semi-Final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest.

After all songs had been presented, televoting started in all the participating countries as well as in Spain and Germany, who are already qualified for the Final, but were drawn to vote in the First Semi-Final.

Nine of the qualifying countries were decided by televoting. Furthermore, the highest placed song in the result of the national backup juries which was not yet qualified through televoting got a place in the Final as well. However, the TV public will only find out which country it was after the Final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday.


The following countries have qualified for the Final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest (in order of announcement):

Sirusho appears on stage with three male dances and two male backing singers.
Her backing dancers spend a lot of the time withering on the floor around Sirusho, they also perform some very energetic gymnastic moves.

All in all, the performance looked very energetic and it illustrated the oriental motives in the song very well.

Press conference

In the press conference, Sirusho was asked what the song title Qele Qele stands for. She explained that "Qele" means "Come on" in English, and that it fits the message of the song well. Furthermore, Sirusho claimed that she received most of her influences as an artist and musician her parents, who are well respected artists in Armenia.

When Armenia joined the Eurovision family in 2006 very few people would have expected them to have done so well in their first pair of participations. Two years on, and the Caucasian country has made the final twice, finishing 8th both times, and scoring huge totals in the process. But behind every success is a hard-working Head of Delegation- oikotimes.com spoke to Armenia's Diana Mnatsakanyan:

1) What made AMPTV decide to enter Eurovision in the first place?

We have been broadcasting the shows live from Turkey and Ukraine and our viewers have been very insisting to take part in ESC whatever it takes. I have received thousands of e-mails and telephone calls with the same request and question ''why don't WE take part if we broadcast it?'' We became an active member of EBU, then asked for a favor to participate in the contest and luckily became a small part of the show twice already.

2) Armenia has now entered Eurovision twice, was in the final both times, had a top ten finish twice, and both of the entries have scored over 120 points- did you ever think that something like this would happen?

To tell the truth - never :) Can you imagine how happy I am to state that we are twice in the final from the first attempt? .... Read more....

Arevik group to represent Armenia - JESC

Armenia will be represented at Junior Eurovision by 8 singers of children and youth ensemble of public television and radio of Armenia "Arevik" - young singers specially selected for the event, 14 year old Marianna Javahyan, 10 year old Kristine and Anahit. They will be supported by 5 other children.

The band will perform a song, written by Marianna herself.

The selection of "Arevik" band for the contest is not accidental. It is the only professional children ensemble in the country. The band is successfully taking part in many international contests and festivals.

"We're going to Junior Eurovision to win there, and our victory will become victory of whole Armenia", says Armen Divanyan.
